A.J. Allmendinger, driver of the No. 47 JTG-Daugherty Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, will honor friend and late Verizon IndyCar Series driver Justin Wilson by carrying Wilson’s name above the window of his race car for the remainder of the 2015 race season, beginning with Sunday’s Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. Twelve races remain in the 2015 Sprint Cup season.
“Proud and honored to have his name above my window the rest of the year. Thank u @stef_wilson JW family for allowing it,” Allmendinger (@AJDinger) tweeted on Wednesday.
Wilson passed away Aug. 24 from injuries sustained when he was struck in the head by debris during the ABC Supply 500 IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., the previous day.
Allmendinger and Wilson were teammates at Michael Shank Racing for five Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona races and raced together in CART.
