The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series takes to the track at Bristol (Ten.) Motor Speedway Friday for its first practice in preparation for Sunday’s Food City 500, but the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing team of Trevor Bayne and the No. 2 Team Penske team of Brad Keselowski will have their practice times cut short. Those two teams were docked 15 minutes of practice times each after having trouble getting through inspection last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth.
Keselowski’s team failed the laser portion of pre-qualifying inspection at TMS on April eighth, while Bayne’s team failed laser inspection during the pre-race inspection process on April 10.
The practice penalties come as a result of accumulated written warnings for inspection issues.
A handful of other Sprint Cup teams received written warnings at Texas Motor Speedway. The No. 3 Richard Childress Racing team of Austin Dillon and the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing team of Kyle Larson received warnings for failing pre-race inspection twice, while the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team of Kyle Busch and the No. 23 BK Racing team of David Ragan received warnings for twice failing pre-qualifying inspection.
Three Xfinity Series teams also received written warnings last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. The No. 01 JD Motorsports team of Ryan Preece and the Nos. 5 and 7 JR Motorsports teams of Chase Elliott and JR Motorsports received warnings for failing twice in the laser station of pre-race inspection on April 9.
