Chris Buescher has a sizable lead in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship points standings heading into Saturday’s Ford EcoBoost 300 season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but he hasn’t clinched his first NASCAR national-level championship just yet. Second and third-place drivers Chase Elliott and Ty Dillon haven’t been mathematically eliminated, and therefore have outside chances at the series title.
Buescher heads into Homestead-Miami with an 18-point lead over Elliott and a 22-point cushion on Dillon. He may sew up his first championship with a finish of 13th or better on Saturday, regardless of how reigning champion Elliott or Dillon perform. In Buescher leads at least one lap, his necessary finish will drop to 14th. If he leads the most laps in the race, he’ll need to finish 15th or better. In last year’s finale at Homestead, he finished fifth after starting 10th.
