Chris Buescher returns to Front Row for Watkins Glen

By AMANDA VINCENT

Chris Buescher returns to the seat of the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford for Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. It’ll be Buescher’s first Sprint Cup race since his last ride in the No. 34 since the race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on May 3, a race in which he finished 24th.

“It’s been a couple months since I’ve worked with the 34 team, but I think we’ll get right back into a rhythm,” Buescher said. “I know they’ve been working hard on the Bully Hill Vineyards car, and I I think we’ll be up to speed pretty quick.”

Buescher will have two teammates in the Sprint Cup race on Sunday, Cole Whitt in the No. 35 Ford and David Gilliland in the No. 38.

Buescher is the full-time driver of the No. 60 Ford NASCAR Xfinity Series entry for Roush Fenway Racing. He took on extra driving duty, filling in behind the wheel of Front Row’s No. 34 Cup car for five races earlier this season.

FRM’s driver to start the season David Ragan, headed over to Joe Gibbs Racing to fill-in in the No. 18 car for then-injured Kyle Busch and then ended up at Michael Waltrip Racing as a replacement for the sidelined Brian Vickers upon Busch’s return to JGR. Brett Moffitt wound up as the primary driver at Front Row Motorsports’ No. 34, but he’s been replaced for both Sprint Cup road course races. Justin Marks drove the No. 34 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway earlier this year, and now Buescher is slated to drive the No. 34 Sunday at The Glen.

Meanwhile, Buescher is in his second full year of competition in the Xfinity Series where he has two race wins, eight top-fives and 10 top-10 finishes 19 races in the season. He is the Xfinity Series championship points leader.

The Xfinity Series is also at Watkins Glen this weekend, racing on Saturday, making this weekend a double-duty weekend for Buescher.
