Cole Pearn on probation after Dover

By AMANDA VINCENT

Cole Pearn, crew chief for Martin Truex Jr. and the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, has been placed on probation by NASCAR until the end for a rules violation committed Sunday at Dover (Del.) International Speedway prior to the AAA 400.

NASCAR officials discovered the right-rear quarter panel had been pulled out prior to the race. As a result, Truex was sent to the back of the field for the start of the race after qualifying ninth. On Sunday, NASCAR originally announced that there would be no further penalties to the No. 78 team. That changed with Wednesday’s announcement of Pearn’s probation.

Truex finished the AAA 400 just outside the top-10 in the 11th position, allowing advancement to the second round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup that begins Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
