News & Notes

POINTS WITH EIGHT TO GO: Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet SS, currently ranks 11th in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup after finishing sixth at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last weekend. With eight races remaining in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, Earnhardt trails leader Matt Kenseth by 62 points.

2013 STATISTICS: After 28 races in the 2013 season, Earnhardt has earned one pole position, five top-five finishes and 15 top-10s. His 15 top-10 finishes tie him for third overall.

AT DOVER: In 27 Cup starts at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, Earnhardt has one win, five top-five finishes and nine top-10s. He has led 368 laps and completed 99.1 percent of all laps he’s attempted (10,705 of 10,804 total) at the Monster Mile.

MONSTER MILE WIN: Earnhardt’s Sprint Cup win at Dover happened Sept. 23, 2001. The victory, which came in the first Cup race following Sept. 11, was the second of his sophomore season. Earnhardt displayed the American flag during his victory lap to pay tribute to the victims. In that race he started third and led 193 laps.

LAPS IN THE TOP 15: Earnhardt ranked seventh among drivers for laps run in the top 15 at the June race at Dover earlier this year, according to NASCAR’s loop data statistics. The Kannapolis, N.C., native spent 86 percent of his laps (344 of 400 total) running in the top 15.

DOVER CHASSIS: Crew chief Steve Letarte and the No. 88 team will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-745 this weekend at Dover. Earnhardt has averaged an 8.75 finish running this chassis this season. Most recently, he recorded 10th-place results at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in August and Dover in June. Prior to that, he raced this car to a ninth-place finish at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in May and a sixth-place finish at Bristol in March.

HENDRICK AT DOVER:  In 59 Cup events (187 starts) at Dover, Hendrick Motorsports has 14 wins, 48 top-five finishes and 81 top-10s. Jimmie Johnson, who won most recently at the one-mile oval for Hendrick Motorsports in June 2012, has seven career wins at Dover and ranks tied for first all-time at the track with Hall of Famers Bobby Allison and Richard Petty. Jeff Gordon has contributed another four wins to Hendrick Motorsports’ total.

LAP LEADERS AT DOVER: Johnson leads active drivers with 2,461 laps led at Dover, and Gordon ranks second with 2,292 going into Sunday’s Sprint Cup event.  With 400 scheduled laps for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup event, Johnson would need to lead 341 laps to pass Dover’s all-time lap leader and Hall of Famer Bobby Allison (2,801 laps led).

DALE EARNHARDT JR., DRIVER, NO. 88 NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET SS (ON DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY.): “We haven’t been that great at Dover but we had a top-10 finish there earlier this year. We feel pretty good about being consistent and running well at every track. I’m looking forward to getting to Dover and seeing what kind of race car we have.”
