NASCAR driver David Ragan will be one of 11 individuals to ride on the Shriners Hosptials for Children Float in the 127th annual Rose Parade on Jan. 1.
“I am honored to be a part of this tradition and hope to be able to spread the word about these two wonderful organizations, Shriners Hospitals and Shriners International,” Ragan said. “Racing is such a big part of my life, and I thought this was such an appropriate and fun theme to encourage kids to keep strong and enjoy the adventures that life will bring.”
The theme of the Shriners float for the 2016 parade is “Fezzy Races to Adventure.” The float features a 17-foot-high bear driving a fire truck. It was built by Phoenix Decorating Company.
Patients from Shriners Hospitals for Children and leaders from the Shriners organization will accompany Ragan on the float.
“We are excited to be able to participate, once again, in the Rose Parade,” Shriners Hospitals for Children Board of Directors Chairman Jerry G. Gantt said. “Our float, ‘Fezzy Races to Adventure,’ is a great way to show the public our commitment to providing healing in a way that is fun and child-friendly. I believe the children riding on the float will enjoy it and so will the audience.
Ragan lost his NASCAR ride at the end of the 2015 season with the closure of Michael Waltrip Racing. There has been no announcement, as of yet, regarding a ride for Ragan for 2016.
