Drew Herring leads JGR sweep of front row in Iowa qualifying

Joe Gibbs Racing swept the front row starting spots in NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying at Iowa Speedway in Newton on Saturday for Sunday’s 3M 250, with Drew Herring taking the pole with a 23.439 second/134.391 mph lap in the third and final round of qualifying. It’s his second-career Xfinity Series pole in his 16th-career attempt. Herring’s JGR teammate Daniel Suarez qualified second.

Brian Scott and Chris Buescher will share the second row for the green flag on Sunday after posting the third and fourth-fastest laps in the third round on Saturday.

Brandon Jones, in Iowa for his Xfinity Series debut from behind the wheel of the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, was impressive through practice and qualifying on Saturday. After posting the fastest lap in the first of two practice sessions, he turned in the fastest lap (23.540 seconds/133.815 mph) in the first round of qualifying. RCR teammate Scott and Elliott Sadler were second and third to Jones in round one.
