Erik Jones’ crew chief fined after Phoenix

Chris Gabehart, crew chief on the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team of driver Erik Jones in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, has been fined $5,000 because of a rules infraction discovered during post-race inspection after the Axalta 200 on March 12 at Phoenix International Raceway, according to the weekly NASCAR penalty announcement released on Wednesday. Gabehart is in his first season as an Xfinity Series crew chief at Joe Gibbs Racing.

The No. 20 car didn’t meet rear toe measurement requirements, an infraction that calls for a P2-level penalty on NASCAR’s penalty scale. In its penalty announcement, NASCAR cited violations of sections 12.1, 12.5.3.3.1 g and 20.17.3.1.2 of the 2016 rule book.
