The No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet team of Martin Truex Jr. in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is the latest team to change at least one of its tire changers on its pit crew, as the Chase for the Sprint Cup heads into its second of 10 races, Sunday’s Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.
Josh Franko replaced Dave Collins as front tire changer. Collins suffered an ankle injury during pit stop practice on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Adam Hartman replaces Kyle Turner, at least for Sunday’s race.
Both Franko and Hartman are backup crew members from Michael Waltrip Racing. The FRR pit crew works at the MWR shop, even though Furniture Row is a Chevrolet team and Michael Waltrip Racing is a Toyota team.
The No. 78 team is the fourth of the 16 in the Chase to replace at least one tire changer. The No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports team of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 2 Team Penske Ford team of Brad Keselowski made changes prior to the Sept. 20 race at Chicagoland Speedway that kicked off the 2015 Chase. Earlier this week, the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team of Kyle Busch announced that it had parted ways with former front tire changer Nick Odell.
Truex enters the New Hampshire race 11th in the Chase standings, 17 points behind leader Matt Kenseth, and three points behind Earnhardt, the driver just ahead of him.
