Joe Gibbs Racing somewhat successful in appeal

On Wednesday, the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team of Kyle Busch made an appeal the the National Motorsports Appeals Panel in an effort to get penalties it was issued by NASCAR following the Sept. 10 Furious 7 300 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet Ill. The team was successful in getting one of its penalties reduced and another eliminated.

A $12,500 fine was reduced to an $8,500 fine and the probation of crew chief Chris Gayle through the end of the year was lifted, because the rules violation at Chicagoland was the result of a parts failure. Car owner J.D. Gibbs’ loss of 10 owner points remained unchanged.
