Joey Gase climbs into No. 32 for Phoenix

By AMANDA VINCENT

Race car driver Joey Gase announced Tuesday morning via his Twitter account (@JoeyGaseRacing) that he would be behind the wheel of the No. 32 Go FAS Racing Ford for the March 13 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. He tweeted:

“ANNOUNCEMENT! I will be driving for @GoFasRacing32 in Phoenix 3/13! We still have sponsorship available! Please e-mail joeygasepr@gmail.com”

The No. 32 was driven by racing veteran and semi-retired driver Bobby Labonte to a 31st-place finish in the Feb. 21 season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Sprint Cup Series rookie driver Jeffrey Earnhardt took over driving duties for the Feb. 28 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway and finished 38th. An announcement from the race team in late 2015 put Labonte in the No. 32 at restrictor plate races at Daytona and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway and Earnhardt in the car for most of the other races on the 2016 schedule.

Gase has seven-career Sprint Cup starts, three in 2015 and four in 2014. All seven of those starts came in the No. 32 Ford. His career-best finish was a 33rd-place showing at Phoenix in 2014.

The team has not yet made an official announcement putting Gase in the No. 32 at PIR and its website (GoFASracing.com) only lists Labonte and Earnhardt as drivers.
