John Wes Townley, Spencer Gallagher fined for wrestling at Gateway
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers John Wes Townley and Spencer Gallagher have been fined by NASCAR as a result of their physical altercation at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill., on Saturday night during a caution late in the running of the Drivin’ For Lineman 200, according to the weekly penalty report from NASCAR, issued on Wednesday. Townley was fined $15,000, and Gallagher was fined $12,500. Both drivers also were placed on probation through the end of the year.
The seeds for the incident were sewn around lap 145 of the 200-lap race when Gallagher’s truck made contact with the truck driven by Townley. About 10 laps later, Townley made contact with Gallagher. During the caution that followed, the two drivers exited their trucks under caution and engaged in a physical altercation on the race track that took the tone of a wrestling match in which punches were exchanged.
