Kevin Harvick has substitute jackman in Daytona

By AMANDA VINCENT

The No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet team of driver Kevin Harvick in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will have a fill-in jackman for Sunday’s season-opener, the Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. SHR back-up jackman Stan Doolittle will substitute for regular jackman Mike Casto. Casto also may miss the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Feb. 28. He is expected to return to the team for the March 6 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but hopes to return next weekend at Atlanta.

In November, Casto had shoulder surgery as a result of a left-shoulder injury suffered three years ago during a pit stop at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. He also underwent knee surgery during the offseason because of an injury sustained during a pit stop in 2015, also at Chicagoland.

“I’ve always said that I will do this as long as my body lets me and I’m competitive,” Casto said, according to a story on NASCAR.com. “Do injuries put questions in your head? Sure, but I never doubt my ability to always do my best and to get back and be better than I was before, irrelevant of my age. No one is ever really pain-free in this sport, but it’s all about how you manage it.”
