Kyle Larson’s car fails post-race inspection at Michigan

By AMANDA VINCENT

Kyle Larson finished third behind winner Joey Logano and Chase Elliott in the FireKeepers Casino 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Sunday, but afdter the race, Larson’s No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet failed posot-race laser inspection. If any penalties are assessed, they will likely be announced by NASCAR on Wednesday.
The No. 42 was serving a penalty in the form of a suspended crew chief in the Michigan race. Crew chief Chad Johnston was sidelined by NASCAR for the race at MIS because of a lug nut issue after the rain-delayed race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., on May 6. Johnston also was fined $20,000 and placed on probation through the end of the year because of the incident at Pocono.
The third-place finish was Larson’s third top-five of the 2016 season, so far, and his second in the last four races.
