Landon Casill has joined Front Row Motorsports for the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season to drive the No. 38 Ford, according to an announcement by the race team Wednesday during the Charlotte Motor Speedway Media Tour. By joining FRM for the upcoming season, Cassill becomes teammate to 2016 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year candidate and 2015 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Chris Buescher, who will be behind the wheel of the No. 34 through a partnership with Roush Fenway Racing. Cassill replaces David Gilliland in the No. 38.
“We’ve always been impressed with Landon and what he can do behind the wheel,” Front Row Motorsports owner Bob Jenkins said. “He’s got a lot of natural talent. You could see that at every level of racing he’s competed in throughout his career. We’re happy to have that talent in one of our race cars this year.”
Cassill drove for Mike Hillman Racing in 2015. In all, he has made 187-career Sprint Ccup starts, beginning with a part-time effort in 2010. He has one-career top-five finish, a fourth-place showing at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in 2014. After becoming a Hendrick Motorsports driver and racing in the series now known as the Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports, Cassill has primarily raced for underfunted teams at the Xfinity and Cup levels.
“I feel like Front Row Motorsports is a great fit for me,” Cassill said. “I’ve got several years of experience in the series now, and being a part of this team will help me take the next step in my career. I’m grateful to Bob Jenkins and Ford Motor Company for the opportunity and can’t wait to get in the car.”
