For Martin Truex Jr., the driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the Texas Motor Speedway race weekend that culminates in Saturday night’s running of the Duck Commander 500 includes being honored with the Texas Motor Speedway’s Sportsmanship Award at the track’s annual gala that benefits Speedway Children’s Charities on Thursday night.
“I want to thank the Texas media for selecting me for the sportsmanship award,” Truex said. “It’s an honor that I truly appreciate.”
Truex will be one of a handful of drivers honored durin the gala. Retired driver Jeff Burton will become the latest inductee into the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Erik Jones, driver for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series, will be awarded the Racer of the Year Award. The Bruton Smith Legend Awaqrd will be presented to Wood Brothers Racing, and the Major General Thomas Sadler Humanitarian Award will be presented to Stewart-Haas Racing driver and co-owner Tony Stewart.
