At this time, the thoughts of, surely, most in the US are with those dealing with the devastation of Hurricane Sandy that recently hit the East Coast. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Martin Truex Jr., driver of the No. 56 Michael Waltrip Racing, is among those whose hearts go out to the storm victims.
Part of the area hit by Sandy is near and dear to Truex. Truex is a native of Mayetta, N.J., a town among those dealing with storm damage and devastation.
“I want the people of Mayetta and everyone back east impacted by Sandy to know that I’m thinking about them and will do whatever possible to provide relief quickly,” Truex said in a statement released on Wednesday morning by MWR. “My family, my friends and everyone impacted by this disaster are in our thoughts.”
Truex is asking his fans, and everyone, for that matter, to head on over to his foundation’s website, martintruexjrfoundation.org, to make monetary donations. Those donations will be forwarded to storm victims.
Truex plans to get the word out about the opportunity to help Hurricane Sandy victims through his foundation while at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500. His No. 56 will car a special decal, calling attention to the effort.
“I’m humbed by the generosity of the NASCAR community and want to thank each of you in advance for contributing to our relief effort,” Truex said.
According to several reports I’ve read across the Web and scene on TV, more than 50 lives were claimed by Sandy and millions of folks along the East Coast remain without power. The storm has left parts of New York and New Jersey under water. The effects were devastating enough to shut down Wall Street, the lifeblood of the American economy, for the first time for weather reasons in well over a century.
At Auto Racing Daily, our thoughts are with those dealing with the effects of this hurricane, and we urge all our readers to help out the cause, either by donating to the Red Cross, the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation or any other outlet collecting funds or other types of donations for the cause.
