Matt Kenseth’s team loses pit selection at Sonoma

By AMANDA VINCENT
Matt Kenseth qualified 23rd for Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. Normally, that would mean that his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team would be 23rd in line for pit selection. But at Sonoma, the No. 20 team had to settle for what was left after the other 39 teams competing at Sonoma selected their pit stalls.
The No. 20 lost its pit selection as a result of an issue getting through pre-qualifying inspection at Sonoma on Saturday. Teams are penalized, with possible penalties including a loss of pit selection, after the accumulation of four written warnings. The warning the No. 20 team received after pre-qualifying inspection was the fourth for the team.
Kenseth’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Carl Edwards, will start on the pole Sunday. The race is scheduled to take the green flag shortly after noon local time (3 p.m. ET).
