Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing, the new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team formed by the merger of Circle Sport Racing and Leavine Family Racing, announced on Thursday that it has hired Dave Winston to serve as crew chief for the No. 95 Chevrolet in 2016 races in which Michael McDowell will be in the driver’s seat.

“Dave is a perfect fit for our team, having worked at both large and small organizations,” car owner Bob Leavine said. “He understands the budget constraints of a small team but knows what is required to make the team more competitive. I really like his engineering background, as that is a key factor in our alliance with (Richard Childress Racing).”

Winston was crew chief for Alex Bowman at BK Racing in 2014. He’s been in NASCAR for 15 years, including time spent as a race engineer. Teams for which Winston has worked include Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing, Team Penske, Red Bull Racing and Roush Fenway Racing.

McDowell will drive the car most of the season, but he will share the ride with NASCAR Xfinity Series regular, Ty Dillon. Todd Parrott will serve as crew chief for the races in which Dillon will be in the car.

In its announcement of Winston’s hiring, Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing also announced the promotion of Jeremy Lange from Marketing Director to Vice President of Operations.
