Premium Motorsports recently announced that Mike Hillman has joined the organization to lead its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series efforts. Hillman brings along Mark Hillman as crew chief.
Mike Hillman previously was listed as owner of the No. 40 Chevrolet team. Most of the personnel from the No. 40 team in 2015 also has joined Premium Motorsports, creating a merger, of sorts, between Hillman Smith Motorsports that fielded the No. 40 car last season and Premium Motorsports. Hillman Smith previously was associated with Circle Sport Racing that fields the No. 33 car in the Sprint Cup Series.
“We had to upgrade our team, moving forward, and that included Mike Hillman, select key personnel and the purchase of additional cars and equipment,” Premium Motorsports owner Jay Robinson said. “The racing bar is being raised even higher, and this effort will enable us to commit more resources and become more competitive for 2016.”
The team has yet to announce a driver for the upcoming season. Brendan Gaughan started 2015 with Premium Motorsports and Josh Wise was added during the early stages of the when Phile Parsons Racing was purchesed by Premium Motorsports. Both drivers left around mideseason, though, and Premium Motorsports put several drivers in its cars, including Reed Sorenson, Timmy Hill, T.J. Bell and Ryan Preece. Meanwhile, Landon Cassill was the primary driver of Hillman’s No. 40 in 2015.
