NASCAR community assists Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

Just as Hendrick Motorsports and its four Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers have banded together for a fundraising effort to assist Hurricane Harvey victims (read about it here), others drivers/teams within the NASCAR community also are providing outlets for assistance.

NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Brennan Poole is hosting a food and fund drive Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET at the Chip Ganassi Racing shop in Concord, N.C. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be collection. For those who can’t get to the drive, donations will be accepted online.

According to a Facebook post from Poole, each $1 donated will provide three meals from the Houston Food Bank.

Furniture Row Racing also is collecting donations online, here. Those donations will be distributed through World Vision. Also, the team owner/sponsor is donating $ 1 million in bedding.

Richard Childress Racing is collecting bottled water and individual snack packages, beginning Wednesday at the RCR Museum with the hopes of filling a tractor-trailer. The team is not accepting clothing or perishable food.

Meanwhile, Cup Series driver Joey Logano is collecting funds on behalf of the American Red Cross through his Joey Logano Foundation website. Logano has made a $25,000 donation and his sponsor, Shell, is donating $1 million.

Also, the NASCAR Foundation continues to raise funds for hurricane relief through its website. Information on that fund drive may be found, here.
