JTG-Daugherty Racing announced Chris Buescher’s car number Monday via Twitter (@JTGRacing
). Buescher will drive a No. 37 Chevrolet as a teammate to A.J. Allmendinger, driver of the No. 47 JTG-Daugherty Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR premier series in 2017.
“The BIG Reveal… You have been asking and guessing what car # @Chris_Buescher
will be driving in 2017, it will be the #37. #NASCAR,” JTG-Daugherty tweeted.
JTG-Daugherty Racing is expanding from one team to two for 2017. Buescher still is under contract as a Roush Fenway Racing driver, and along with Buescher, JTG-Daugherty also is receiving the charter under which RFR’s No. 16 Ford, with Greg Biffle as driver, competed in 2016. Roush is scaling back to a two-team Cup-level operation for 2017, eliminating the No. 16 team.
Car owner Jack Roush farmed Buescher out to another Ford team, Front Row Motorsports, in 2016, because he had not room for him at the Cup level. The 2016 season was Buescher’s rookie campain at NASCAR’s top-level. He made the Chase for the Sprint Cup in his debut season by virtue of a win in a rain-shortened race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. He was eliminated from the Chase, though, in the first round. Prior to moving to Cup, Buescher was the 2015 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion.
