On Thursday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted a series of photos and videos on his Instragram account detailing the recovery process as he remains sidelined from NASCAR competition because of a concussion his doctors believe he sustained from a wreck June 12 at Michigan International Speedway.
Earnhardt’s posts included a photo of eye charts about which he said, “Bout got them memorized.”
He also posted a video that he watches to help with balance a gaze stability, which is the ability to focus on a distant object while moving the head.
Earnhardt also mentioned a computerized program that makes him cross his eyes, training the eyes to work together.
“Simple stuff but it’s really helping,” Earnhardt said in one of his posts.
He was unable to give a timetable for his return. Saturday night’s Bass Pro Shops NRA 500 will be the fifth race he’s missed. It’ll be the fourth-straight race in which Jeff Gordon has served as substitute driver of the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
