By AMANDA VINCENT

Eight Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers were docked practice time at Kansas Speedway near Kansas City on Saturday as teams prepared for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400, the elimination race of the second round, or Round of 12, in the 2017 playoffs.

The No. 00 StarCom Chevrolet team of Derrike Cope, the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford team of Landon Cassill and the No. 47 JTG-Daugherty Racing Chevrolet team of A.J. Allmendinger lost 15 minutes at the start of the first practice Saturday, the second of the weekend, for being late to pre-qualifying inspection Friday.

Cope’s team also was docked 15 minutes in final practice Saturday afternoon for twice failing pre-qualifying inspection. Other teams penalized 15 minutes for the same infraction included the No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet team of Jamie McMurray and the No. 27 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Paul Menard.

The No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing team of Trevor Bayne, the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team of Chase Elliott and the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford team of Aric Almirola were docked 15 minutes in final practice for inspection issues last weekend at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
