The No. 30 TMG (The Motorsports Group) Chevrolet driven by Josh Wise in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has withdrawn from Sunday’s Hellmann’s 500 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The race team announced its decision to withdraw via its public relations Twitter account (@TMG30PR) on Wednesday.
“We are taking the Dega weekend off,” the team tweeted. “We are still building and our plate program is just not where it needs to be to qualify.”
The No. 30 team doesn’t have a NASCAR team charter that would guarantee it a starting spot in the 40-car field. The preliminary entry list for the Talladega race, with the No. 30 entered, contained 43 cars, so three cars would fail to qualify for the race.
Wise and the No. 30 team attempted to qualify for the three previous restrictor-plate races this season (two at Daytona International Speedway and one at Talladega) and failed to make any of the three races. The team also failed to qualify for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Sunday’s Talladega race will be the first of the season for which the No. 30 team won’t be entered.
