Todd Parrott has been relieved of his crew chief duties on the No. 95 Leavine Family Racing Chevrolet team of driver Michael MicDowell, effective immediately, according to an announcement Monday from the race team. Jon Leonard will be interim crew chief.

“Todd Parrott has been relieved of crew chief duties for the remainder of the 2017 season, effective immediately,” the announcement from Leavine Family Racing read. “After careful consideration and numerous discussions regarding the position of crew whief, we have decided to go in a different direction. While we continue to explore our options for the 2018 race season, Jon Leonard will assume the duties of interim Crew Chief.”

Leonard, who has been a race engineer on the team, will make his debut as crew chief Sunday at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.

McDowell also has been released from the team, effective at the end of the season, to make way for Kasey Kahne in 2018. Kahne will finish out 2017 at Hendrick Motorsports.

Parrott has 31 race wins as a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series crew chief and was Dale Jarrett’s crew chief at Robert Yates Racing when Jarrett won the then-Winston Cup championship in 1999. He joined Leavine Family Racing last year. Other teams for which Parrott has worked as crew chief include Roush Fenway Racing, Richard Childress Racing and Richard Petty Motorsports

With the No. 95 team this year, McDowell is 27th in the points standings, 31 races into the 36-race season. He has one top-top-10 this season, a fourth-place finish at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in July.
