NASCAR confiscated a rear suspension part from the No. 22 Team Penske Dodge of Joey Logano when the car was in the garage at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon for repairs during the Overton’s 301 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race Sunday.

Logano went to the garage on lap 174 of the 301-lap race. He spent more than 30 laps in the garage as his team repaired the suspension of his car. The part confiscated by NASCAR was the part that failed. Upon confiscation, the part was sent to NASCAR’s Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., for evaluation.

“Something in the back; I don’t know,” Logano said when asked, specifically, which part NASCAR confiscated. “It doesn’t matter. It was broken anyway.”

Logano returned to the race after the repair and wound up 37th out of 39 cars at the finish.

Logano is 13th in the Cup Series points standings with seven races remaining in the 26-race regular season, but four drivers behind him have wins that will move them ahead of Logano in terms of the playoffs, shuffling Logano down to 17th, one position below the cutoff. He notched a win earlier this season, but it was deemed “encumbered” by NASCAR when his car failed post-race inspection, so that win can not be relied upon to get Logano into the playoffs. The issue with the No. 22 car then was in the area of the rear suspension.

“We’ve got to stay together as a team; we’ve got to stick together,” Logano said. “We need to keep faith in each other and we need to make our cars faster. Plain and simple, we have to get faster.”
