A new Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team, SarCom Racing, plans to enter series competition in 2017 and continue into 2018.

“We are excited about this new business venture and have been working hard to build our team’s foundation on professional leadership and quality equipment that we intend to bring to the track within the coming weeks,” StarCom Racing Owner and CFO William Woehlemann said.

The team was expected to make its debut in Sunday’s race at Dover (Del.) International Speedway but has withdrawn from that race, citing the hiring of personnel and timing.

Veteran driver Derrike Cope is slated to drive the team’s No. 00 Chevrolet in races the team enters over the course of the remainder of the 2017 season. Opportunities are available, though, for other drivers with sponsorship backing for next year.

“After getting to know Derrike and (Cope’s wife) Elyshia Cope, we are thrilled to have Derrike on board as, not only our driver, but as our team manager and Elyshia as our Marketing Director. Derrike and Elyshia’s dedication and true love for NASCAR is a win for our team right from the start,” said Michael Kohler, CEO of StarCom Racing.

Cope recently parted ways with Premium Motorsports, most recently racing for that team at Richmond (Va.) Raceway on Sept. 9.

The team is owned by StarCom Fiber, a New Jersey-based telecommunications company that sponsored a car earlier this season.
