NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will honor his late friend, Bryan Clauson, with a special paint scheme for Saturday night’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol (Ten.) Motor Speedway.
“It will be a huge honor to run the same Fastenal scheme that Bryan raced in 2008,” Stenhouse said. “This past week has been difficult for many, but it has been great to see the racing community join together to support Bryan’s family, friends and Lauren (Stewart, Clauson’s fiancee). Bryon was one of my best friends and, hopefully, we can ‘park it’ in victory lane on Saturday for Bryan.”
Clauson passed away at the age of 27 on Aug. 7 as a result of injuries sustained in a USAC Midget race in Bellevill, Kan., the previous night.
Fastenal is one of the primary sponsors on Stenhouse’s No. 17 Roush Fenway Ford in the Sprint Cup Series and also was Clauson’s primary sponsor when he raced in the series now known as the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2008. The Fastenal scheme on Stenhouse’s car at Bristol on Saturday will mirror that of the No. 40 Chip Ganassi Racing entry Clauson raced in the Xfinity Series.
“Ricky approached us last week about the opportunity to honor Bryan at Bristol by running the paint scheme we ran with him in 2008,” Fastenal Vice President of Marketing Brooke Mlsna said. “We thought it was an admirable tribute to someone we looked at as a valued member of the Blue Team.”
