NASCAR Cup: several warnings issued after Charlotte Motor Speedway

By AMANDA VINCENT
NASCAR handed down several written warnings for inspection issues during the NASCAR Xfinity/Sprint Cup series race weekend at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway that culminated in a Sunday doubleheader on Oct. 9 with the running of the Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup race, followed by the Drive for the Cure 300 Xfinity Series race.
All but one of the warnings went to Sprint Cup Series teams.
The No. 27 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet team of Paul Menard received a written warning and was docked 15 minutes of practice time for failing pre-qualifying laser inspection three times. The No. 30 The Motorsports Group Chevrolet team of Josh Wise received a written warning and lost 15 minutes of practice time for failing pre-qualifying template inspection.
Seven teams received written warnings for twice failing pre-race template inspection — the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford team of Trevor Bayne, the No. 7 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevrolet of Regan Smith, the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Matt Kenseth, the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet of Kurt Busch, the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet of Kyle Larson, the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota of Martin Truex Jr. and the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Alex Bowman at Charlotte. The warnings were fourth warnings for the No. 7 and No. 41 teams, so they are expected to lose 15 minutes of practice time at Kansas Speedway near Kansas City this weekend.
Meanwhile, The No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford team of Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the No. 20 team, the No. 23 BK Racing Toyota team of David Ragan, the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team of Chase Elliott, the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Ryan Newman, the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford of David Ragan and the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford of Aric Almirola received written warnings for twice failing pre-qualifying laser inspection. It was the fourth warning for the No. 31, but it came early enough in the Charlotte race weekend for the penalty to be served during the weekend in the form of the loss of pit selection.
The No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet team of Kevin Harvick, the No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet of Danica Patrick, the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet of Tony Stewart and the No. 88 team each received a warning for twice failing pre-qualifying template inspection. It was the fourth warning for the No. 10 team, but the team served the penalty while still at Charlotte with the loss of pit selection.
The only warnings handed out among Xfinity Series team was a warning to the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet team of Ty Dillon for twice failing pre-race laser inspection.
