On Monday, Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway released a statement from track President and General Manager Steve Page, reporting that the road course that hosts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, among other racing series, yearly, has been spared from wildfires that currently burn in Northern California.

“All of us at Sonoma Raceway extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to those who have been touched by the devastating North Bay fires,” Page said. “Our facilities team and a number of local fire companies have been battling grassland fires on Cougar Mountain and elsewhere around our property, and at this point, it does not appear any of the raceway’s structures or other facilities are at immediate risk.  We appreciate all of the good wishes that have flooded in from friends around the country.

Fires began Sunday and thousands of residents from Napa and Sonoma counties have been evacuated. The fires continue to spread as a result of high winds and dry weather conditions.

On Tuesday, Sonoma Raceway announced that it would open its largest campground across Hwy. 121 from the track to evacuees for RV camping. Access to the campground will be available at Gate 6 off Hwy. 121, about a quarter of a mile north of Hwy. 37.
