NASCAR Cup: top-10 Most Popular Driver vote-getters announced
By AMANDA VINCENT
On Monday, the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) revealed the top-10 vote-getters, to that point, in the fan vote for Sprint Cup Series 2016 Most Popular Driver. Voting continues until 11:59 p.m. ET Nov. 20.
Among the top-10 vote-getters are all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Chase Elliott, Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne and three of the four Joe Gibbs Racing drivers — Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth. The other top-10 vote-getters, as of Nov. 7, are Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart and Martin Truex Jr.
Votes may still be cast online at
MostPopularDriver.com or via the NASCAR Mobile app. Fans may vote once per day per email address. The winner will be announced during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards banquet at The Wynn Las Vegas on Dec. 2. A $10,000 donation will be made in the winning driver’s name to his/her charity of choice.
Earnhardt has won the award the last 13 years and remains a top vote-getter, despite missing much of the season because of a concussion. He is three awards shy of tying the record for most Most Popular Driver Awards. That record is held by Bill Elliott, a 16-time winner of the award.
