NASCAR reschedules Martinsville Speedway doubleheader for Monday

By AMANDA VINCENT

NASCAR plans to run a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series/Camping World Truck Series doubleheader at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Monday, as a rain and snow mix forced the postponement of the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 Truck Series race after the completion of 23 laps on Saturday and an accumulation of snow has forced the postponement of Sunday’s STP 500 Cup series race.

Monday’s tentative schedule calls for an 11 a.m. ET running of the Truck Series race, followed by the Cup Series race at 2 p.m.

The Truck Series race will restart at lap 24 with ThorSport Racing teammates Ben Rhodes and Matt Crafton on the front row. Rhodes started on the pole and led all 23 laps, so far. Kyle Benjamin and Grant Enfinger will restart in the second row.

Martin Truex Jr. will start on the pole for the Cup Series race for the third-consecutive time, as a result of the weather-forced cancellation of qualifying, scheduled for Saturday. He’ll be joined on the front row by Kyle Busch. The starting grid for the STP 500 was set by car owner points.
