NASCAR reveals Sprint Fan Vote top-five vote-getters
By AMANDA VINCENT
Fans still have a week to cast votes in the Sprint Fan Vote in attempts to get their favorite drivers, not already qualified for the Sprint All-Star Race, into the event, scheduled for May 21 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. On Thursday, NASCAR announced the top-five vote-getters, so far. They include Ryan Blaney, Matt DiBenedetto, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Danica Patrick. Although the top-five vote-getters were revealed, details of their tallies were not. Instead, they were listed in alphabetical order.
Voting is open until 5 p.m. ET May 20 and the winner will be revealed after the Sprint Showdown, also at CMS, later that evening. Drivers with race wins last season and up to the checkered flag at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Sunday already have All-Star Race starting spots guaranteed, as do previous All-Star Race winners and past Sprint Cup Series champions. Segment winners from the Sprint Showdown also will advance to the All-Star Race. The final All-Star starting spot will go to the top-two Sprint Fan Vote vote-getters among drivers not already qualified for the Sprint All-Star Race.
Previously, only the top vote-getter advanced to the All-Star Race. Patrick has been the Sprint Fan Vote winner two of the last three seasons, taking the final All-Star Race starting spot in 2013 and 2015. Josh Wise took the honor in 2014.
