NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Auto Club Speedway

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup and Xfinity series wrap up their West Coast Swing this weekend with stops at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Races this weekend will be the fifth of the 2018 seasons for both series. The Xfinity Series will race at Auto Club on Saturday, with the race weekend culminating in Sunday’s Auto Club 400 for the Cup Series.

The 150-lap Xfinity Series will consist of two 35-lap stages, following by an 80-lap third and final stage. Meanwhile, the 200-lap Cup Series race will be comprised of two 60-lap stages and an 80-lap third stage.

Kyle Larson swept the 2017 NASCAR weekend at Auto Club Speedway with wins in both the Xfinity and Cup series races. Jimmie Johnson leads the way among active Cup Series drivers at the facility with six series wins there.

2:35-3:25 p.m. — Cup Series practice (FS1)
3:35-4:25 p.m. — Xfinity Series practice (FS1)
5:35-6:25 p.m. — Xfinity Series final practice (FS1)
7:15 p.m. — Cup Series qualifying (FS1)

SATURDAY
12:35-1:25 p.m. — Cup Series practice (FS1)
1:35 p.m. — Xfinity Series qualifying (FS1)
3:30-4:20 p.m. — Cup Series final practice (FS1)
5 p.m. — Xfinity Series race (FS1)

SUNDAY
3:30 p.m. — Cup Series race (FOX)

Cool temperatures are in the forecast for the NASCAR race weekend at Auto Club Speedway, with daytime highs throughout the race weekend ranging between the high-50s to low-60s. Meanwhile, overnight lows in the low to mid-40s are expected all weekend. Rain also is in the forecast for Fontana this weekend, with a 56 percent chance of showers Friday and a 55 percent chance of rain Saturday. Precipitation, though, is expected to move out of the area by Sunday.
