NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Daytona International Speedway

The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity series head to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the second time in 2016 for night racing, with the Xfinity Series opening the competition portion of the Daytona International Speedway race weekend with the Firecracker 250 on Friday night and the Sprint Cup Series closing out the weekend with Saturday night’s running of the Coke Zero 400. The two weekend races also will mark the third restrictor-plate races of the season for each series and the return of NASCAR on NBC. Meanwhile, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes the weekend off.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast for the Daytona Beach area throughout the weekend, especially Thursday through Saturday. Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to hover between the high-90s during the daytime hours and dropping to the mid 70s overnight throughout the weekend.
On Thursday, practice day for both series, the percentage of rain chances are between the mid-30s and mid-40s. On Friday, daytime chances of rain are at 66 percent, with a 40 percent chance of rain Friday night. The chance of clear weather does improve for Saturday night, though. After a 51 percent chance of rain during the day on Saturday, that chance lowers to 14 percent Saturday night.
