NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Dover International Speedway

For the first weekend since Atlanta Motor Speedway in late February, the upcoming NASCAR race weekend in a triple-header race weekend with all three national series — Camping World Truck, Xfinity and Sprint Cup — in action at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. The weekend will culminate in Sunday’s running of the AAA 400 Drive for Autism Sprint Cup Series race. The Camping World Truck Series will run its companion race Friday evening with the Xfinity Series taking to the track for its third of four Dash 4 Cash races Saturday afternoon.

Here’s a schedule for all on-track activity at Dover (courtesy of NASCAR.com):

2-2:55 p.m. — Truck Series practice
4-4:55 p.m. — Truck Series final practice

FRIDAY

10-10:55 a.m. — Xfinity Series practice (FOX Sports 1)
11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. — Sprint Cup Series practice (FOX Sports 1)
12:30-1:55 p.m. — Xfinity Series final practice (FOX Sports 1)
2:15 p.m. — Truck Series qualifying (FOX Sports 1)
3:45 p.m. — Sprint Cup qualifying (FOX Sports 1)
5:30 p.m. — Truck Series race (FOX Sports 1)

SATURDAY

9:30-10:25 a.m. — Sprint Cup Series practice (FOX Sports 1)
10:45 a.m. — Xfinity Series qualifying (FOX Sports 1)
12:30-1:25 p.m. — Sprint Cup final practice (FOX Sports 2)
2 p.m. — Xfinity Series heat 1 (FOX)
2:50 p.m. — Xfinity Series heat 2 (FOX)

The Camping World Truck Series is the only NASCAR national series with track time scheduled for Thursday. The series is expected to run both of its practice sessions Thursday afternoon. Thursday afternoon’s forecast for the Dover area includes a high temperature of 69 degrees under mostly cloudy skies with a 25 percent chance of precipitation.

Friday’s forecast calls for more rain, with a higher 67 percent chance of rain, along with thunderstorms, a forecast that could, perhaps wreak havoc on practice for the Sprint Cup and Xfinity series, qualifying for the Sprint Cup and Truck series and the Truck Series race. Like Thursday, the forecasted high for Friday is 69 degrees.

Saturday, race day for the Xfinity Series, doesn’t look much better, precipitation-wise. There’s a 55 percent chance of rain, along with an afternoon thunderstorm predicted. The day’s high temperature is expected to reach 72 degrees.

Sunday, Sprint Cup Series race day, looks to be the most ideal day for racing. Along with a high temperature of 60 degrees, the chance of rain falls into single digits at nine percent.
