NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Pocono, Iowa

Two race tracks play host to NASCAR national-level racing this weekend. The Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck series playing their respective parts in a doubleheader at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., with the Truck Series running the Pocono Mountains 150 on Saturday and the Sprint Cup Series closing out the weekend with the Pennsylvania 500 on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Xfinity Series heads to Iowa Speedway in Newton for a stand-alone race, the US Cellular 250, on Saturday night.

 

Here’s the combined on-track schedule of activity for Pocono and Iowa (from NASCAR.com):

FRIDAY

 

11 a.m.-12:25 p.m. — Sprint Cup practice (NBCSN)

12:30-1:55 p.m. — Truck Series practice (FS1)

3-3:55 p.m. — Truck Series final practice (FS1)

4:15 p.m. — Sprint Cup qualifying (NBCSN)

5-5:50 p.m. — Xfinity Series practice (NBCSN delayed coverage at 5:30 p.m.)

7-8:20 p.m. — Xfinity Series final practice (NBCSN)

 

SATURDAY

 

9:05 A.M. — Truck Series qualifying (FS1)

11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. — Sprint Cup final practice (NBCSN)

1 p.m. — Truck Series race (FS1)

4:15 p.m. — Xfinity Series qualifying (NBCSN)

8 p.m. — Xfinity Series race (NBCSN)

 

SUNDAY

 

1:30 p.m. — Sprint Cup race (NBCSN)

The weekend weather for Long Pond, Pa., looks wet with rain and thunderstorms in the area Friday through Sunday, with the chances of rain hovering between 55 and 65 percent throughout the weekend. Friday is expected to be the warmest day, with the temperature expecting to reach 80 degrees. High temperatures in the low to mid-70s are predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

 

The weather forecast for Friday and Saturday in Iowa look similar. High temperatures between the mid and upper-70s are expected for both days, and so are thunderstorms. There’s a 40 percent chance of rain Friday and Saturday, with thunderstorms predicted for Saturday evening.
