NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Talladega Superspeedway

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Xfinity Series head to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway this weekend for the second restrictor plate races of the season for each series. The Camping World Truck Series continues its time off. The Xfinity Series will run the Sparks Energy 300 on Saturday afternoon, while the Sprint Cup Series will close out the weekend with the Geico 500 on Sunday. The ARCA Racing Series also is a part of the Talladega race weekend, running its race Friday night.

1:30-2:25 p.m. — Xfinity Series final practice (FOX Sports 1)
2:30-3:25 p.m. — Sprint Cup Series practice (FOX Sports 1)

There is a somewhat significant chance that rain will modify the Talladega weekend schedule. There’s not much of a chance of rain for Xfinity and Sprint Cup series practice day on Friday, with daytime rain chances at only seven percent. Meanwhile, Friday’s high temperature is expected to reach 88 degrees.
Rain is more likely on Saturday and Sunday, though. The weather forecast for the Talladega area calls for a 40 percent chance of showers during the day on Saturday, qualifying day for both series and race day for the Xfinity Series, with thunderstorms possible for the afternoon. Saturday’s high temperature is expected to be around 84 degrees.
On Sunday, Sprint Cup race day, there’s a chance of a strong thunderstorm, with the likelihood of precipitation at 55 percent. The high temperature for the day is expected to be 80 degrees.
