NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Watkins Glen



The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity series go road course racing at Watkins (N.Y.) Glen this weekend, with the Xfinity Series running the Zippo 200 at The Glen on Saturday and the Sprint Cup Series closes out the race weekend with Sunday’s Cheez-It 355. It’s the second and final road-course race of the season for the Cup Series, while the Xfinity Series goes road-course racing for the first time this year. Saturday’s race is the first of two-straight road-course races and the first of three, overall, this year for the Xfinity Series. Meanwhile, the Camping World Truck Series takes the weekend off.

Friday’s weather forecast for Watkins Glen, N.Y., calls for a humid day with a high temperature of 90 degrees. Meanwhile, the chance of precipitation is 25 percent.


Saturday’s forecast calls for a morning show passing through the area, bringing the chance of precipitation to 55 percent for the day. Saturday is expected to be less humid in the afternoon when the temperature is expected to reach the high-80s.


Sunday just happens to be the weekend day with the smallest chance of precipitation at 13 percent. It also is expected to be the coolest day of the weekend, with high temperatures reaching the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies.
