NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for ISM Raceway

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series remain out west for the second-leg of the three race weekend Western Swing for both series, while the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes a couple of weekends off after joining the other two national series last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Next up for the Cup and Xfinity series — ISM Raceway, formerly known as Phoenix International Raceway.

The ISM weekend will culminate in Sunday’s running of the Ticket Guardian 500 for the Cup Series, a 312-lap race split into stages of 75, 75 and 162 laps. On Saturday, the Xfinity will run the DC Solar 200, a race comprised of two-45 laps stages and a 110-lap third stage for a total of 200 laps.

Ryan Newman was the winner of the first Phoenix race of 2017, while Matt Kenseth was victorious the last time the Cup Series visited the track last November. Then-JR Motorsports teammates Justin Allgaier and William Byron were victorious in Xfinity Series competition at the newly-named ISM Raceway in 2017, with Allgaier winning the spring race and Byron the fall event.

Kevin Harvick heads into Sunday’s Cup race at Phoenix as the winner of the last two Cup Series races — last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the previous weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway — and two of the three races, so far, in 2018. Harvick is an eight-time Cup Series winner at Phoenix, the most recent coming in March 2016.
