NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Richmond Raceway

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series go short-track racing for the second-consecutive weekend, this time at night, at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. The Xfinity Series will run the Toyota Care 250 on Friday night, while the Cup Series will close out the doubleheader weekend with Saturday night’s running of the Toyota Owners 400.

Joey Logano is the defending winner of the Toyota Owners 400, while Kyle Larson is the most recent Cup winner at Richmond, winning the last regular-season race there last September.

Friday night’s Xfinity Series race will be the second of four races in the 2018 Dash 4 Cash program, with Justin Allgaier, Daniel Hemric, Elliott Sadler and Spencer Gallagher racing for a $100,000 bonus.

Xfinity Series races at Richmond are usually won by Cup Series regulars, but that won’t be the case Friday night. Since the race is part of the D4C program, no Cup Series drivers will be allowed to compete. Cup Series regulars Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski won Xfinity races at Richmond Raceway last year.

The Toyota Owners 400 will be separated into stages of 100, 100 and 200 laps for its 400-lap total distance, while the Toyota Care 250 will be contended in two 75-lap stages, followed by a 100-lap third stage.

WEATHER (courtesy of

After a rain-interrupted race weekend at Bristol (Ten.) Motor Speedway, Mother Nature doesn’t look to be a threat for the upcoming race weekend at Richmond Raceway; the only chance of precipitation in the forecast for the Richmond weekend is a scant two percent chance of rain Saturday night. Meanwhile, cool temperatures are expected for the weekend of night racing. After days of highs between the low and mid-60s both Friday and Saturday, overnight lows in the high-30s are expected.
