NASCAR schedule, weather outlook for Talladega Superspeedway

15_Alabama500By AMANDA VINCENT

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series head to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway this weekend. The NASCAR Xfinity Series, meanwhile, has the weekend off.

For the Truck Series, Saturday’s Fred’s 250 is the elimination race of the opening round of the playoffs. So after the checkered flag, the playoff field will be whittled to six, down from eight. The Cup Series, though, has already had its first-round elimination race, and Sunday’s Alabama 500 will be the second race of the second round of the Cup Series playoffs.

The Fred’s 250 is scheduled for 94 laps, broken down into two 20-lap stages and a 54-lap third stage, while the Cup race Sunday is scheduled for 188 laps — two 55-lap stages, followed by a 78-lap third and final stage.
