NASCAR Truck: John Wes Townley remains sidelined by ankle injury
By AMANDA VINCENT
John Wes Townley will remain sidelined for the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season-finale Friday night at Homestead-Miami Speedway as the result of an off-track angle injury. For the Homestead race, Brady Boswell will climb into the No. 05 Athenian Motorsports Chevrolet in place of Townley.
The Homestead race will be Boswell’s second-career Truck Series race. It just so happens Boswell’s lone previous Truck Series start also came behind the wheel of the No. 05 as a sub for Townley. Townley missed two races earlier this season because of a concussion, and Boswell drove the No. 05 in his place at Eldora Speedway, the dirt track owned by Tony Stewart in Rossburg, Ohio. He finished 21st in that race.
“This will be a great opportunity for Brady,” Townley said. “I know he’ll do a solid job for Athenian Motorsports. He drove for us at Eldora this summer. I’m confident he can get us a strong finish at Homestead.”
Friday’s Ford EcoBoost 200 will be the third-consecutive race missed by Townley because of the ankle injury.
“The good news is I was able to get off the crutches last week,” Townley said. “The bad news is I’m still limping some. Nothing is broken, but it’s just going to take longer than I thought for it to heal.”
