NASCAR Truck: making the chase — standings after Pocono
By AMANDA VINCENT
William Byron continued his historic rookie run through the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Saturday with his win of the Pocono Mountains 150 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. It was the rookie’s fifth win, 12 races into the 23-race season.
With the series embarking on its first chase to determine its champion for this year, Byron, through his latest win, added more bonus points with which to start the chase.
With four regular-season races remaining before the Truck Series chase, five drivers have race wins, all but locking-up berths in the eight-driver chase. The one other championship-eligible driver with multiple wins is two-time series champion Matt Crafton with two. Other race winners include Johnny Sauter, Christopher Bell and John Hunter Nemechek.
Here’s a look at the Truck Series standings, including drivers virtually locked into the chase on wins, along with drivers in position to gain chase entry by virtue of points:
1. William Byron (5 wins)
2. Matt Crafton (2 wins)
3. Johnny Sauter (1 win)
