Alex Bowman will drive the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet in NASCAR Xfinity Series races at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway on Oct. 7 and Phoenix International Raceway on Nov. 11.

“I’m really excited to get back in a race-winning car with a team like CGR,” Bowman said. “A huge thanks to Chip and Mr. (Rick) Hendrick for putting this together for me to get some valuable seat time heading into 2018. My goal is to win two races and help the No. 42 team win the NXS owners’ championship.”

The No. 42 seat, primarily, has been shared by Kyle Larson, one of CGR’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers, and Tyler Reddick. Reddick won in the No. 42 Sept. 23 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. Bowman will have a teammate in Xfinity Series regular Brennan Poole for his two races in the No. 42.

Bowman is under contract to Hendrick Motorsports and will compete full-time in the Cup Series for HMS next year. Chip Ganassi Racing has a technical alliance with Hendrick Motorsports and team owner Rick Hendrick’s HendrickCars.com will be the primary sponsor of the No. 42 at Charlotte.

“We’re excited to welcome Alex to the No. 42 team for two races,” CGR owner Chip Ganassi said. “He’s a great young talent who can help us with our goal of winning an NXS owners’ championship. Initially, those two races were earmarked for Larson but we wanted him to focus on the Cup playoffs so we appreciate Rick and his team for allowing us to put Alex in our car. Hendrick Motorsports has been a tremendous partner of CGR for many years.”

Bowman already has made nine Xfinity Series starts this season for JR Motorsports, resulting in three top-fives and seven top-10 finishes. In all, he has 50 career starts in the series, including one full-time season of competition in 2013. His career Xfinity Series stats include five top-fives and 13 top-10s.
