Road-course racing specialist Alex Tagliani will rejoin Team Penske for the Aug. 27 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. He’ll be behind the wheel of the No. 22 Ford that is driven, primarily, by Team Penske’s Sprint Cup Series drivers Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano.
The Road America race will be Tagliani’s first NASCAR national-level event of 2016. He last raced in the Xfinity Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington in August 2015. In that race, also driving the No. 22, he nearly claimed his first NASCAR national-level win. He was leading the race on the final lap but after last-corner contact from Regan Smith, Tagliani wound up second.
While Tagliani hasn’t been seen in NASCAR US national competition, he has been active in a NASCAR series this year, competing in seven of the eight races completed by the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, based in Canada. In that series this year, he’s won three races and posted top-five finishes in all but one of the races in which he has competed. His worst finish was a sixth-place showing at Circuit ICAR.
Tagliani’s Xfinity Series stats include seven starts, resulting in four top-five finishes.
