NASCAR Xfinity: composite body makes debut at Richmond Raceway

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will debut its flange-fit composite body in Friday night’s race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. The 13-panel, bolt-together body is optional for the Richmond race and races at Dover (De.) International Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway later this season. It’ll also be optional for all races, except at superspeedways, next year before it is expected to become the mandatory body in 2019.

NASCAR had a the composite body on display in its tech/inspection area at Richmond on Thursday, and there also is one on display at NASCAR’s Research & Development Center in Concord, N.C. Here are some photos of the one on display at the R&D Center (photos courtesy NASCAR):
