NASCAR Xfinity: Elliott Sadler not losing sponsor after all
By AMANDA VINCENT
Not too long ago, Elliott Sadler and his No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series thought they had lost OneMain as its primary sponsor. And why wouldn’t they? The sponsor did notify the team that it was going to end its sponsorship relationship with the team at the end of the 2016 season. The financial company, though, had a change of heart, and as a result, OneMain will be primary sponsor on the No. 1 car for 20 races during the 2017 Xfinity Series season.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Elliott Sadler and Jr Motorsports,” OneMain Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Bob Hurzeler said. “After further evaluation of the program, we felt this relationship was a perfect fit for our company. Elliott has been an outstanding ambassador for OneMain, and we look forward to our continued success with Elliott and JRM, on and off the track.”
As a result of OneMain’s continued support of JR Motorsports, Sadler has signed a contract extension with the race team. In 2016, Sadler and teammate Justin Allgaier are JRM’s two full-time, championship-eligible drivers. Next year, that championship effort with expand to three drivers with the addition of William Byron.
“Elliott and OneMain are integral pieces to the make-up for our company,” JR Motorsports General Manager Kelley Earnhardt Miller said. “Elliott’s talent speaks for itself, but what’s more, his experience and leadership is completely necessary for our younger guys. He brings a professionalism and charisma that permeates our entire organization, and I think he brings it to OneMain, as well. I’m glad they have decided to come back with their sponsorship. We’ve got many things to accomplishments.”
Sadler, a veteran of both the Xfinity and Sprint Cup Series, is in his first year with JR Motorsports. He has one win, seven top-fives and 20 top-10 finishes in 23 races, so far, this season. He also is the series championship points leader.
Sadler’s relationship with OneMain, formerly known as CitiBank, is a long one. As a matter-of-fact, his No. 1 Sadler will drive Saturday at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway will carry a paint scheme reminiscent of a CitiBank paint scheme on a car he shared with Dale Jarrett in 2005. OneMain is the longest-running sponsor in the Xfinity Series, when the company under its former moniker is included.
